Creative Curriculum is our OUSD board-approved, research-based curriculum for early childhood. It supports whole-child development through play, exploration, and hands-on learning. The curriculum is flexible, project-based, and aligned to children's interests, with a strong focus on social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and language growth.
A pacing calendar is a tool that educators can use to pace their instruction and plan how long to spend on each study. Here you will find our Creative Curriculum Pacing Calendar for the 2025-2026 school year.
Creative Curriculum’s pacing is intended to be flexible so that children can explore topics more deeply or dive into areas that spark their interest. In addition to the pacing guide, teachers also have access to supplemental studies (see list below). Teachers should consult with their principals and Site Administrators if they believe an adjusted pacing would benefit their class.
Additional studies: Trees, Buildings, Exercise, Wheels, Balls, Recycle, Clothes, Pets, Boxes, Bread, Gardening, Insects, Roads, Sand, Signs, Simple Machines, Tubes & Tunnels, and Water
Here is a sample TK schedule:
A TK schedule should include key components that support children's development throughout the day, such as Breakfast, Morning Meeting, Intentional Play, Outdoor Recess, Read-Alouds, Enrichment or Science, Lunch, Rest Time, and an Afternoon Meeting. While the order of activities may vary by elementary school, it is important to follow the allocated time for each part of the day, limit whole group transitions, keep group time under 15 minutes, and provide ample time for intentional play. Whenever possible, longer outdoor play periods are encouraged to support active learning and exploration.

The Creative Curriculum studies cover various topics. Each study is designed to engage children in hands-on, meaningful experiences that promote social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Here you will find resources (such as activity ideas, vocabulary cards, pictures, etc.) shared by other ECE teachers.
Upon teachers' request, we have created a list of additional books and chants that you can use with each Creative Curriculum study! Special thanks to Bernadette Zermeño and Maria Flores for co-creating this amazing resource.
