In this session, teachers will explore the science and research that are the backbone of the EL Ed Curriculum, with an emphasis on the highest leverage practices for supporting students' reading comprehension. We will learn ways of using the EL Ed Curriculum with greater success for students' reading comprehension - based on research that we will dig into together - prioritizing practices that most effectively build background knowledge, fluency, vocabulary, writing skills, and love of reading.

California Teaching Pyramid Module 1A (Social-Emotional Development in the Context of Relationships) is a foundational training module offered by WestEd that focuses on fostering nurturing relationships, understanding child behavior, and implementing positive strategies to support social-emotional competence and prevent challenging behaviors in early childhood settings.

Participants will explore the characteristics of dynamic interest areas and learn how to use room arrangement as a teaching strategy. In addition to planning the physical spaces, participants will examine strategies for strengthening the social and temporal environments to meet the needs of children and families. If so, Inspiring Interactions: Exploring the Teacher’s Role in Interest Areas, is for you! During this 6-hour advanced session for users of The Creative Curriculum®, participants will discover techniques for facilitating important content learning, including literacy and mathematics learning, in interest areas. Participants will be introduced to a collection of helpful teaching strategies that nurture creativity, encourage problem-solving, and engage children in critical thinking. Through discussions and activities, teachers will examine their role in supporting, and extending, high quality play experiences during Choice Time. Additionally, teachers will practice aligning Objectives for Development and Learning, along with associated support strategies, to child-led play scenarios. Participants will leave the session equipped with the tools and skills needed to make Choice Time one of the most important and impactful times of the instructional day.

Two full days of training for new coaches, or those who are returning to the role but have yet to complete the required Foundational PD series, focused on foundational skills for effective coaching. The Foundational series has the following outcomes: -- Cultivate relational trust with the beginning teacher to surface and address challenges while deepening teacher commitment to the success of every student (NTC MPS 3.1) -- Use coaching language and stances strategically and flexibly to promote teacher agency and student growth (NTC MPS 3.2) -- Plan for structured, outcomes-oriented, instructionally-focused coaching conversations grounded in professional goals and formative data (NTC MPS 3.3) For NTSD Coaches, the content on July 23-24 will exempt you from 5 out of the 6 sessions during the year. In this 2-day training, participants will review ELLMA's Core Understandings that Guide Language Instruction as a foundation to understanding language acquisition principles.
We will share about the ELL Journey —From Identification to the SEAL of Biliteracy— as well as learn about the GLAD 7 Hip Pocket Tools utilizing input charts as a vehicle to learning.
This training will emphasize learning and practicing integrating GLAD 7 Hip Pocket Tools across all elementary curricula to provide integrated ELD all day in all subjects. Participants will be given structured application time to unpack and integrate Hip Pocket Tools in EL Education, Benchmark, Eureka Math2, FOSS, Social Studies, etc.
