Secondary Standards and Equity Intensives (6-12 Teachers) - IN PERSON

Description:
The Secondary Standards and Equity Intensives are offered for a variety of content areas and connect to the ongoing focus on culturally responsive teaching and academic discourse for standards aligned instruction. Click the links to register in Frontline.
Math (6-12 Math Teachers) - Teachers will explore structures, including Math Language Routines, that can enhance lesson syntheses. Teachers will then unpack the progression of learning in an upcoming unit, and plan opportunities for student to student talk. (Courtney Ortega & Keely Machmer-Wessels)
Science Lesson Planning (6-8 Science Teachers) - Teachers will unpack the Performance Expectations (PEs) and identify opportunities for talk structures for an upcoming lesson. (Herberta Zulueta)
6th-8th Grade ELA (6-8 ELA Teachers) - 6-8 ELA teachers will unpack the 2nd Interim Assessment of the year, an argument or informational essay, including looking at student work. Teachers will look at ways to use student-to-student talk to support writing, and have time to backwards plan using curricular resources. (Jeanne Bruland)
9th Grade ELA (9th Grade ELA Teachers) - Fishtank Unit / Lesson Planning: In The Time of The Butterflies: 9th Grade teachers will have supported time to reflect on Unit 2 and do unit/ lesson planning for Fishtank Unit 4 In The Time of the Butterflies. (Michelle Espino & Lizzie Humphries )
10th Grade ELA (10th Grade ELA Teachers) -Fishtank Pilot Curriculum Training: 10th Grade teachers will receive training to pilot a new unit from the Fishtank ELA curriculum this spring. 11th-12th Grade ELA (11th and 12th Grade ELA Teachers) - Academic Discourse: Building capacity around academic discourse in 11-12 ELA (Michelle Espino & Colette Kang)
6-12 ELD (6-12 ELD Teachers) - Articulate the equity dimensions of ELL education and your role in advancing language equity as an individual and as part of a larger community of ELL advocates. Build collective efficacy around and expand your toolkit for empowering ELD instruction. ELA SPED (L1 Mild/Mod SCP ELA Teachers) - Fishtank ELA curriculum training & support. Preparing to teach a Fishtank unit in L1 Mild/Mod SCP classes and adapting for accommodations & modifications. (Stephen Raser)
HS Science (9-12 Science Teachers) - Attendees will identify and analyze practices/resources that leverage SEPs to support academic discussions; they will plan for intentional opportunities for students to share and exchange their ideas throughout an upcoming lesson. (Chris Junsay)
UDL & Promoting Inclusive Practices for CTE (6-12 CS, Engineering and CTE Teachers) - Teachers will receive training on Universal Design for Learning & Promoting Inclusive Practices for CTE in collaboration with the Special Education department. (Sam Berg, Brenda Touhy, Katie Cugno)
Secondary Newcomer Instruction Intensive - In the Secondary Newcomer Instruction Intensive, we will address the following objectives: 1. Understand newcomer students assets and needs in the classroom; 2. Learn and apply language teaching strategies to support content learning for newcomers; 3. During this session, K-5 teachers will analyze Eureka Math2 curriculum embedded assessments, assess student progress and make data-informed instructional decisions. Diving Into Designated ELD will prepare teachers to implement the designated ELD with intentionality and quality to accelerate language and literacy outcomes for my ELLs.
Teachers will:
Explain what designated ELD is and what designated ELD isn’t.
Explain how the designated ELD curriculum aligns to my ELA curriculum and supports ELLs with ELA texts and tasks.
Unpack the components of an ELD lesson sequence with my peers in order to be prepared to teach designated ELD.

Relationships are at the core of a successful learning community. The Caring School Community program helps to foster relationships that are characterized by genuine warmth and interest. Students and adults spend time getting to know and appreciate one another, learning about each other's interests, opinions, and ideas. Through this program, students develop the skills and dispositions they need to interact constructively with others.
In this Deep Dive into the Caring School Community program participants will:
Connect as a learning community, and consider how to build that community throughout the school.
-Generate understanding of the conditions necessary for students to succeed socially, emotionally, and academically.
Explore the Caring School Community program and supportive materials, and develop plans to implement this framework.
Experience strategies and techniques that are integrated throughout a Caring School Community classroom and school.

Did you miss all or part of the Puberty or Sex Ed PD during the fall semester? This full day make-up training will prepare teachers to deliver or support instruction of the the Healthy Oakland Kids Puberty Ed curriculum (Grade 5) or in the Healthy Oakland Teens Sex Ed curriculum (Grade9) We will cover important information about CA laws and district policies related to puberty and sex education, and we will also have plenty of time to practice the essential skills needed for covering these topics with students of different ages and learning needs. A delicious catered lunch will be provided by Cafe Platano.
