Dive into Designated ELD (K-5)

Audience: K-5 teachers who use the EL Education ELA curriculum. TSAs, principals, resource specialists, and other instructional support staff are encouraged to attend.

Description:

This one-day session gives an overview of the Designated ELD lessons developed by OUSD teachers for OUSD teachers. By the end of the day, teachers will be prepared to facilitate powerful language learning grounded in the texts and tasks of the ElEd curriculum. Specifically, they will : -deepen understanding of the essential components of quality ELD; -review the CA ELD standards and ELA/ELD framework; -engage in planning sessions to prepare for effective use of the OUSD developed curriculum.

Stay tuned for PD opportunities on designated ELD for teachers who use Benchmark Adelante / Advance. This PD is specifically for teachers who use El Education.

Healthy Oakland Kids & Teens: Skills for Teaching Effective Puberty & Sex Ed (grades 5, 6-8, 9)

Audience: 5th Grade GenEd & SDC teachers, 6-8 Science Teachers & SDC teachers, 9th ELA, Bio and SDC teachers

Description:

Each year, OUSD students receive Puberty Health Education and Comprehensive Sexual Health Education via the Healthy Oakland Kids and Healthy Oakland Teens curricula. In 5th grade, these lessons are taught by GenEd & SDC classroom teachers; in 6th-8th grades, the lessons are taught by Science & SDC teachers; in 9th grade they are taught by ELA, Biology and SDC teachers. All teachers who deliver these lessons must receive training in the content and skills necessary for effective puberty and sex ed instruction.

This PD is a chance for teachers to get trained for the first time, or to refresh their skills for teaching Puberty Health and Comprehensive Sex Ed using the Healthy Oakland Kids & Healthy Oakland Teens curriculum. If you've never taught the curriculum before, you can use this PD as an opportunity to get fully trained for the first time. If you missed a previous PD earlier this year you can attend this PD as a make-up session. If you've taught the curriculum in the past, but would like a refresher on your skills, you can join us as well!

Lunch will be provided, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Racial Justice Equity and Healing Intensive (6-12)

As we continue to build our Community Schools site plans, strengthen meaningful School Site Council representation, and build partnerships to transform culture and advance achievement of students furthest from opportunity in our schools, we invite educators to listen and learn together with students, families and community members. This half day intensive is designed to challenge our internalized ableism, adultism, racism, and classism that dismisses voices who should be at the center of our campus decision-making.

Creative Project-Based Learning Planning

Are you thinking about planning a creative project for your students that culminates in sharing it with a public audience? Using the OUSD Project-Based Learning (PBL) Framework, this workshop will begin with looking at a few sample PBL projects that are already in motion and exploring the elements of high-quality projects. Teachers will have the bulk of the workshop session (2 hours) to develop curriculum in community (or on their own if they wish). We will use a peer critique and revision process to help refine your projects. This workshop is open to CTE AME, Fashion, VAPA and any other teacher looking to design a creative project for their students.


The afternoon (1:00 to 3:30pm) is available for teachers who would like to have in person or virtual coaching from Jamie to workshop ideas and fine-tune plans. Teachers can remain at Skyline, or return to their own classroom.
